Sedona Insights, Part 3
Why are some places on Planet Earth considered to be more powerful than others. Not just sacred. Lots of things can make us perceive a site as sacred. Things that have happened there, spiritual events, world changing events. The place where Jesus was born is sacred to some, the place where JFK was killed, sacred to others.
But I’m talking about more than that. There is no question in my mind that the red rocks of Sedona are places of power. Places where you feel the energy more than you do in any other place. The question is, why? I’ve been mulling it over ever since I got back. The guidebook I got says vortex sites are places where the earth is more alive than in others. Well, sorry, but that definition doesn’t fit. It’s hard to imagine there is more life in the desert thatn there is where I live. Every blade of grass, tree, leaf, plant, is alive, and the ground is carpeted, blanketed, every inch of it, in foliage and life. I know there’s life in the desert, abundant life. But just the grass blades alone must outnumber it, billions to one. Wildlife too.
I came up with two theories of my own as to what makes this place feel so powerful, the second being the most Law of Attraction related one. (So I’ll give you the Maggie-Logic one first, which might only make sense to me.) I got to thinking, if God or Source is The Whole, and each individual person is a shell that contains parts of that Whole, then maybe the Earth is a similar Whole, and each individual plant, tree, and blade of grass contains part of that Whole. When we look at people, we don’t see God. We see them as individuals. If we looked straight at God, at Spirit, not wearing a body at all, that would be a far more powerful experience, because the spirit inside that body is, well, maybe diluted isn’t the right word. But something like that. Smaller. One step removed, right? A small, contained part of the Whole, not the whole Whole. You getting me?
So stay with me here, I’m getting to the point, I promise. What if, when we look at each individual blade of grass and tree and flower, we’re seeing the power that is the Whole of Earth, all sort of forking out into these smaller bits, disguised by these beautiful physical “bodies?” Once removed, like humans are. Small contained parts of Earth but not the whole Whole. What if when we look at the red-rocks of Sedona, with no soil on them, and very little plant life, and certainly no wall to wall grass carpeting, or forests of towering trees–what if that’s like looking at spirit minus the bodies? What if we are experiencing the pure, raw power that is Earth, the Whole of it, the Source of it, without having it filtered through dirt, grass, stem, stalk, root, bud, limb, leaf and trunk? Direct current. Pow.
That was the Maggie Theory. Might be on, might be off, might be close, I don’t know. But I do know the Law of Attraction explanation is a for sure one. (Not saying it’s the only one, so Sedonites, (?) don’t shoot me!)
When we look out on a vista of such breathtaking beauty, the likes of which we’ve barely even imagined, it knocks us out. I mean, it hits us like a blast of pure magic. You just go silent. I got tears just from the sheer beauty of it. I mean, look at this (below.) Imagine each of those little shrubs is the size of a person and you begin to get an inkling of the magnitude of this place.
So when you feel that way, you are in a state of pure appreciation from your head to your toes. Every cell in you is blissing out, relishing, basking. You are never more aligned with Source than in this state, and you are never more 100% completely aligned with your higher self, that part of you that is pure spirit, with God, with Source, with All-That-Is, than when you are in a state of appreciation. And when you’re aligned like that, it’s almost an out of body experience. It’s like BEING pure spirit. You are wide open to and channeling it more than ever. You are IN the Vortex, when you’re at a vortex. (LOA people will get that more than others, I guess.) So yes, you’re going to feel the power more potently, in this place where it’s already coming through more direct and pure and potent because of the reasons I gave above.
This is also a lesson in what it means to really appreciate. When the spiritual teachers of today tell you to express appreciation, this is the feeling they mean. I came home and looked at what surrounded me with the same wonder with which I looked at those beautiful rocks in the desert. I saw abundant life everywhere. I thought how amazing it was that the hard rock beneath my part of the world is completely blanketed by soil and grass and weeds and flowers and trees, trees, trees. I thought how many billions of tiny life forms it must take to cover so much rock. I tasted the air of home more than I had before. It tastes very different from the dry and mostly pollen free air of Arizona. Very different. And it feels different. Damp on my face by comparison. The skies look different. I didn’t see a single cloud in the blue blue skies of Sedona. Here there are always at least a couple of fluffy clouds floating past.
So much natural beauty to appreciate. Coming home made me feel a twinge for not appreciating it the way I appreciate strange places. (We do that with people too, don’t we?) It gave me a new determination to really look at my surroundings, really relish them the way I relish other places when I go away. So those are my insights for today. Let me know what you think.
