There’s a whole issue with manipulative magic. There’s no commandment against it, or anything like that. The only “commandment” in the Craft is to do no harm. So if our manipulations were meant for the greater good, would they then be justified? And who gets to decide? And what happens if it’s not justified and results in harm despite good intentions?
Here’s the thing with magic. It’s personal. This is why it’s a huge request when someone asks me to do a spell for them. Working magic for or about or on someone else creates a bond between me and that person. Once things connect they are always connected, no matter how far apart. This is true in the quantum level, therefore it’s true at all levels. As above, so below. As within, so without.
So say someone is doing great harm to the whole. Well, first of all, we’d have to define harm, and we’d also have to be able to see into the future. Take the harm currently being done to the people of the USA for example. It’s grievous harm, to be sure. But what might the repercussions of it be? What might all this harm be ushering in to take its place? Where there is a problem, a solution is born. It cannot be otherwise. Great darkness inspires greater light.
So in stopping what we perceive to be harm, we might in fact be stopping events that will boomerang back as even greater good. We cannot know.
So there’s that.
Also, when we bind someone from doing harm, we are in a way, binding our energy to theirs. We’re taking responsibility for any harm that results from the act.
So before deciding on this, give it plenty of thought. It is often better and more effective to do magic for what you do want, rather than against what you do not want. The energy of creation is powerful. The energy of destruction is not. Destruction must work against all nature and all powers. It’s paddling upstream.
So if you have all that, here’s how to bind if you absolutely decide the harm being done for sure outweighs the harm of stopping it.
Try to use love in the binding to really make it hold. I’ve used white instead of black for the candle and yarn or string. Try to imagine as you wrap, that you are covering a dark, evil being in light, the only thing that can exterminate darkness. The way you shine light in a dark room and shadows vanish—like that. The dark thing we’re binding is not real. It’s an illusion caused by the lack of light, not a being uno itself. Light will annihilate it.
The Binding Spell
Ever mind the rule of three. Three times what thou giveth returns unto thee!
You’ll need
1 contagious sample (something that belongs to or has been in contact with that which you will bind. If a person, a hair, a fingernail, or a drop of blood. If a thing, any object that has been in contact with that thing.) If you cannot obtain one, you can use the person’s full name, spelled correctly with care, along with their verified date of birth, and if possible time of birth. It’s less potent than a contagious sample, but still potent.
1 white candle, such as an altar candle or chime candle
1 small drawstring sack
1 sheet of parchment paper & marker
One length of white string, yarn, wide ribbon, or best of all, a length of nightshade vine three, five, or seven feet long depending on need.
Patchouli oil
You need to know what binding shape or symbol you will use, so do some research in advance. A circle with an equal armed cross through it is one, an Earth banishing pentagram is another.
You might want to wear gloves for the entire thing to minimize contact
Within a properly cast circle with your favorite warrior goddess or goddesses invoked, for me that would be Inanna and her dark sister Ereshkigal, place all items on the working altar.
Take the white candle. Dress it with patchouli oil, 3 drops, as you hold the candle sideways, pointing away from you, and move your hands from the end near you to the end away from you. Then flip the candle and repeat, always moving your hand away from you.
Next inscribe the candle with the binding symbol you’ve chosen. Place it in a holder and light it.
Powers that be, lend your aid, Bind the harm and lock away
Take the contagious sample and lay it atop the sheet of paper. Fold the paper over it top down and bottom up, covering it twice.
Draw the binding symbol on the folded sheet. Turn it over, draw it on the other side.
Fold the sides in. Again, draw the binding symbol on the front and back.
Roll the folded paper into as slender as possible shape as the sample inside allows. Roll it tight, and as you do, say:
Rolled nice and tight Dropped in a well Malicious might Bound by my spell
Put the rolled paper into the drawstring sack. Tighten the drawstring. Tie the knots, chanting knot spells as you do if you wish.
Take the marker and make the symbol on both sides of the bag.
Take the string or yarn or wide ribbon (to really cover it mummy-like) or nightshade vine. Hold one end to the bag with your thumb, and begin wrapping it around and around the little bag, up and down and up again until you’ve used all the string.
Love binds you from causing pain It binds you once and then again It ties you down and holds you fast And now your evil's time is past Bound by love and bound by light, Impotence in place of might! By sun and sky, by earth and storm No more harm shall you perform No more evil shall you do Warrior Goddess make it true! So mote it be!
Thank the goddess, close the quarters, take up the circle.
Immediately take the bag, gloves still on, and bury it off your property, gloves and all.
Wash your hands.
Ground and center. Have a grain-based snack.
You must never speak of the spell. It’s best if you never even think about the spell. It is done, let it go.
